Leadership

The Speaker presides over the sittings of the Mejlis, signs its resolutions and the summary record of each sitting and represents the chamber. The Secretariat (Apparatus) of the Mejlis, headed by the Chief of Staff, serves the deputies, the committees and the public.

Nurbek Sultanov

Speaker of the Mejlis · since 2019

Nurbek Sultanov was born in 1961 in Talas. He graduated in law from Talas State University. From 1986 he worked as a lawyer at the republican planning committee, and from 1993 to 2010 at its territorial successor, the Office of Economic Planning.

He has represented the Talas city constituency for the Democratic Party of Irad since the election of 2011. From 2015 to 2019 he chaired the Ways and Means Committee, which examines the budget, taxes, customs duties and the reports of the Ministry of Economy.

He was elected Speaker by the new chamber after the election of November 2019, and again by the chamber elected on 7 November 2023. The Speaker presides over the sittings, rules on points of order and on the admissibility of motions, approves the summary record of each sitting and signs the resolutions of the Mejlis.

Ernis Kasymaliev

Chief of Staff of the Secretariat (Apparatus) of the Mejlis · since 2014

Born in 1968 in Talas District. Graduated from the law faculty of Talas State University. Served in the secretariat of the territorial House of Representatives from 1994 and in the Secretariat of the Mejlis since 2007, as head of the Committee Services Department from 2011 to 2014. The Chief of Staff directs the departments of the Secretariat and is responsible for the order paper, the record and the budget of Legislative Hall.

Aizada Sooronbay

Head of the Press Service · since 2021

Born in 1984 in Talas. Graduated in journalism from Talas State University. Worked as a parliamentary correspondent of Radio Irad from 2008 to 2021. Accreditation of journalists, the broadcasting of sittings and requests of the press are dealt with by the Press Service.
